Before that, the castle hill was already leveled as a &#8216;fortress&#8217; by the Alemannic dukes and expanded into a fortress from 270 AD. The Z\u00e4hringen dukes founded monasteries, cities (Freiburg, Offenburg, Rottweil, Bern&#8230;) &amp; castles and developed the land through roads &amp; paths. During the Peasants&#8217; War (1525), all building parts burned down and total destruction occurred in the &#8216;Thirty Years&#8217; War&#8217; (1618-1648). To this day, the Z\u00e4hringer Castle has remained the magnificent viewpoint that attracted people over 2000 years ago. The Waldrestaurant Z\u00e4hringer Burg was built in 1655 on the site of the former &#8216;armory&#8217; of the Dukes of Z\u00e4hringen. The first generations of this house lived from agriculture &amp; animal husbandry. At the end of the 18th century, a snack room for hikers was set up.
